South Bank, London

Staying in the South Bank in London is a great choice for visitors! Overlooking the River Thames, it's lively and busy with amazing attractions like the London Eye, Tate Modern, and Shakespeare’s Globe (one of my favourites), all within walking distance. Walking along the River Thames you’ll see street performers, food markets, and beautiful riverside views. The South Bank is also well-connected to other parts of London, making it easy to explore the city’s major landmarks. The Waterloo and Westminster tube stations are just a few minutes walk away. Plus, with its trendy restaurants, cafes, and nearby parks, staying in the South Bank offers the perfect blend of culture, convenience, and a genuine London experience.

Where I stayed in the South Bank: Premier Inn County Hall

Image: Premier Inn County Hall, London, UK

The Premier Inn London County Hall is a budget hotel right in the heart of Central London. It's located inside the historic County Hall building and just a short stroll from the iconic London Eye, making it a great base for exploring all the amazing attractions in the city. You can easily walk to famous landmarks like the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben.

Even though it's a budget option, the Premier Inn London County Hall is known for its clean rooms (if you want your room cleaned every day you will have to request that), with many rooms having views of the Thames or the London Eye. Amenities include air conditioning, free Wi-Fi (if you want better Wi-Fi then you have to pay extra for that), and an on-site restaurant with breakfast and dinner options. Plus, with easy access to public transport, including Waterloo Station, it's a great spot for sightseeing. The main selling feature of the Premier Inn London County Hall is the location.

Review of the Premier Inn County Hall

We stayed in this hotel as a family some years ago and did find it impersonal. At the time, we found the rooms spacious and clean with plenty of room for four people. We easily walked along the South Bank, to Big Ben, Trafalgar Square, Churchill War Museum, Westminster Abbey and other popular attractions. We went for evening walks and enjoyed the view of the London Eye lit up at night. However, it does have that hotel chain atmosphere where you won’t get that one-on-one experience with the hotel staff. The front desk can be very busy, with long lines and I found the restaurant convenient but expensive. Plus if your stay there is for more than one or two nights you do tire of the food options. If location is important to you, then this is a great place to stay. However, if you’re looking for the British hotel experience then head over to my Pimlico hotel review. I also highly recommend checking recent reviews on Trip Advisor to see what travellers are saying about this and any other hotel you are thinking of booking.
